Manus AI general purpose agent platform acquired by Meta for $2 billion

Meta recently closed a $2 billion deal to purchase Singapore-based Manus AI, a general purpose AI agent developer.

Acquiring Manus could be a great thing for Meta, which has seemingly struggled to develop a consistent strategy compared to other AI tech giants like OpenAI, Google and Anthropic.

Manus’ AI agent is intended to be customized by the user to complete complex tasks. This might include things like market research, coding and data analysis.

Meta plans to scale Manus’ subscription-based service to substantially more businesses.

However, not everyone is excited about the deal. Some of Manus’ existing customers are concerned about how their data will be handled under the new parent company.

Manus’ CEO Xiao Hong reassured customers in a recent press release, stating “Joining Meta allows us to build on a stronger, more sustainable foundation without changing how Manus works or how decisions are made. We’re excited about what the future holds with Meta and Manus working together and we will continue to iterate the product and serve users that have defined Manus from the beginning.”
