Meta Acquires 1,400 More Acres Next to Louisiana Hyperion Data Center

Meta has quietly acquired an additional 1,400 acres adjacent to its Hyperion data center campus in Louisiana, expanding the site to more than 3,650 total acres.

The original 2,250-acre site was initially slated for a $10 billion, 2GW facility. But last October’s $27 billion joint venture with Blue Owl Capital hinted toward bigger plans. CEO Mark Zuckerberg later confirmed Hyperion “could scale up to 5GW over several years.”

This is not just about land, but strategy. AI infrastructure requires securing multi-gigawatt sites years before operation, then scaling as fast as power becomes available.

The expansion makes sense considering Meta’s aggressive contracting strategy: over $27 billion in reported deals with Google, CoreWeave and Nebius since August. Another $20 billion deal with Oracle is in the works. Meta is putting itself in a position to scale.
