JERA, the leading power generator in Japan, will acquire $1.5 billion worth of American natural gas assets.

JERA, the leading power generator in Japan, will acquire $1.5 billion worth of American natural gas assets.
This is JERA’s first leap into the shale gas production world. They will be acquiring the South Mansfield gas field in Louisiana’s Haynesville Shale basin from pipeline operator Williams and GEP Haynesville II.
Recently, JERA has shown increasing interest in U.S. gas. Earlier this year, they signed a letter of intent for gas from Alaska’s $44 billion LNG export project.
JERA is trying to gain more control over its energy supply chain. Japan, like many countries around the globe, is seeing increasing power demand from AI and data centers.
