Austin County Energy Center

Austin County Energy Center is located on a 93-acre site near the City of Sealy in Austin County, Texas, approximately 25 miles west of Houston along Interstate-10.

The site offers significant infrastructure advantages including proximity to major natural gas pipelines and direct access to the regional electricity transmission network. The project will interconnect with CenterPoint Energy’s transmission system between the Wallis and Gebhardt substations.

The location eliminates the need for new rights-of-way for gas, water, or electricity infrastructure, reducing development costs and accelerating construction timelines.

Austin County Energy Center is strategically positioned to support the growing electricity demand in ERCOT’s Houston zone, one of the largest and fastest-growing energy markets in the United States.

Houston serves as a major load center where flexible peaking capacity is increasingly required to balance intermittent renewable energy sources such as wind and solar. As renewable generation expands, dispatchable natural gas facilities play a critical role in maintaining grid reliability and stability.

The project also benefits from proximity to major natural gas pricing hubs including the Houston Ship Channel and Katy Hub, enabling access to abundant and low-cost fuel supply.
