Vistra Corp is acquiring Cogentrix Energy for $4 billion, adding 10 natural gas facilities to its already impressive generation portfolio.
All in all, the acquired plants represent approximately 5,500 MW of capacity. This includes three combined cycle gas turbine facilities and two combustion turbine facilities in PJM, four combined cycle gas turbine facilities in ISO New England, and one cogeneration facility in ERCOT.
Cogentrix was sold to Vistra by Quantum Capital Group. It’s important to note that Quantum only bought Cogentrix from Carlyle in August of 2024. At that time, they paid roughly $3 billion for 5.3 GW of generating capacity.
