LandBridge and NRG Energy have signed an agreement for a potential 1.1GW gas-fired plant to power a hyperscale data center in Reeves County, Texas.
The LandBridge-owned location is next to the Waha natural gas hub, making it an ideal spot for access to existing gas supplies and transmission infrastructure. The power plant would be connected to the grid.
Although no FID has yet been made, NRG has already submitted air permit applications and interconnection requests. Now they just need to secure a PPA.
If approved, operations are expected to begin by the end of 2029.
ERCOT is in need of new generation, and fast. Texas, like many regions throughout the country, is seeing a rapid rise in data center demand and other large load customers. If supply can’t keep up, we may start experiencing shortages within the next few years.
