Calpine has obtained a Texas Energy Fund loan for their 460 MW peaker plant in Freestone County.
The Pin Oak Creek project is being developed next to the Freestone Energy Center. Construction is expected to be completed sometime next year.
Calpine has been developing heavily in this space, as one of the country’s largest electricity generators from natural gas and geothermal sources. Currently, they operate over 27,000 MW across 22 states and Canada.
Why is this important? Texas, like many states, is feeling the pressure from increased power demand, particularly from data centers and manufacturing. The region is in serious need of reliable energy that can ramp up quickly in times of peak demand.
